Wann wird das Present Continuous benutzt?

Das Present Continuous deutet darauf hin, dass ein Vorgang gerade eben im Moment der Schilderung passiert.

Beispiel:

Please be quiet! Sarah is studying.
I can’t pass the phone to Peter. He is having a bath.

Das Present Continous drückt aus, dass etwas geplant, beabsichtigt oder vereinbart ist. In diesem Fall wird das Present Continuous im futuristischen Sinne benutzt. Diese Nutzung muss anhand des Zusammenhanges oder einer Zeitangabe klar ersichtlich sein.

Beispiel:

I am spending my holidays in the United States this year.
She is taking her exams tomorrow morning.

Wir benutzen das Present Continous für sich ändernde Situationen.

Beispiel:

Your French is getting better.

Wichtig:
Das Present Continous wird in der Regel durch Anhängen von –ing an das Verb gebildet.

Beispiel:

work - I am working
sing - I am singing
play - he is playing

Es gibt jedoch drei Ausnahmen für diese Regel:

Endet das Verb auf die Abfolge von Konsonant + betonter Vokal +Konsonant, so wird der letzte Konsonant verdoppelt!

Beispiel:

run r = Konsonant u = Betonter Vokal n = Konsonant

run - I am running

weitere Verben:

stop – he is stopping
travel – she is travelling
begin – we are beginning

Endet das Verb auf einen Vokal + Konsonant + e wird das –e am Ende entfernt.

Beispiel:

come - they are coming

Endet das Verb auf -ie wird das –ie in ein y verwandelt.

Beispiel:

lie - I am lying
die - he is dying
