Past Perfect

Beispiel:

I had sung
You had sung
He/she/it had sung
We had sung
You had sung (Plural)
They had sung

Wann wird das Past Perfect benutzt?

Das Past Perfect drückt aus, dass ein Vorgang vor einem anderen Vorgang in der Vergangenheit stattgefunden hat.

Beispiel:

He bought the novel after he had seen it in the shop.
I talked to Sue after I had met her at the club.

Das Past Perfect wird in der indirekten Rede genutzt. Es gibt das Past Tense oder Present Perfect der direkten Rede wieder.

Beispiel:

He said that his mother had moved to Manchester.
She told me that his sister had reminded her of a famous actress.

Bei Fragesätzen werden die Positionen von Subjekt und Hilfsverb getauscht.

Beispiel:

Had they arrived in Canada?
Had you seen that boy?

Bei Verneinungen tritt “not” zwischen Verb und Hilfsverb.

Beispiel:

She had not talked to him.
They had not finished their homework.

Wichtig:

Bei Unterhaltungen im Past Perfect werden Subjekt und Hilfsverb verknüpft.

He/she/it had

In der Regel wird diese Verknüpfung für das Wort „would“ benutzt. Um Missverständnisse zu vermeiden, sollte die Zeit komplett ausgeschrieben werden.
